A comprehensive account of the beliefs, values and customs of Muslims; especially useful for teachers, health-care providers, social workers and others who are in daily contact with MuslimsBritain long since became a multi-cultural, multi-religious society, and within this unique setting Muslims now constitute the second largest religious group. A useful list of mosques, Muslim organizations and resource centres has been appended. Mustafa Yusuf McDermott was bom in England. Brought up as a Roman Catholic, he embraced Islam late in life. He studied Social Science at the Universities of Leeds and Loughborough and lectured in Sociology and taught English in Colleges of Further Education. He was engaged in Muslim Welfare and teaching in Norwich, London and Dublin and involved in editing Islamic works. as well as original writing. Dr. M. Manazir Ahsan is an M.A. in Islamic History and Culture from the University of Rajshahi. Bangladesh and has done his doctorate from the School of Oriental and African Studies. University of London. He received his Arabic and Islamic education from 'Alia Madrasah in Bangladesh. He has been associated with the Islamic Foundation, Leicester since 1973 and is presently Director General, and co-editor of its quarterly review journal, the Muslim World Book Review. His publications include: Islam: Faith and Practice (Leicester. 1977), Social Life Under the Abbasids (Longman and Librairie du Liban, 1979), Muslim Festivals (London, 1985), Sacrilege Versus Civility: Muslim Perspective on The Satanic verses Affair (co-edited with A.R.
